The Hertz Ford Mustang Shelby GT500-H marks the latest collaboration between the rental-car agency and the famous tuner.
Shelby America has taken the Mustang GT500 to the next level, and it’s a car you can’t buy—but you can rent. Just $399 puts 950 horsepower in your hands. Please use it wisely.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500-H resurrects a classic color scheme from the famed Rent-a-Racers of the 1960s—but with a lot more horsepower.
The car will come in Shadow Black or Oxford White, both with gold racing stripes. Only 25 are being built.
The standard Shelby Mustang GT500 is no slouch with 760 horsepower, but the GT500-H pushes that total to 950 horsepower.
The extra grunt comes from a larger 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger that replaces the standard 2.7-liter unit atop the 5.2-liter V-8.
A revised seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is used exclusively, and a Borla exhaust provides an appropriate soundtrack.
An exclusive carbon-fiber hood shaves 30 pounds and also extracts more heat and reduces lift.
Hertz will have the cars in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and four locations in Florida.
The GT500-H rents for $399 per day, which includes 75 miles. Additional miles are charged at $0.75 each.
Unlike the 1960s Hertz Shelby Mustangs, the GT500-H is expressly forbidden from being entered into any motorsports competition.
We’d say they should also exercise restraint when doing burnouts at car shows, lest they end up on YouTube—for all the wrong reasons.
